Children, Youth and Family

For those with a passion to develop Christian discipleship and education programs.

An eight unit course combining studies in theology and practical pastoral skills to help you develop effective discipleship and Christian education programs. Supported by a Chaplaincy Coordinator.

Core units

These units are compulsory study:

  • Reading cultures 
  • Youth and young adult ministry
  • Ministry with children and families
  • Spirituality for 21st century disciples OR Media and communication in contemporary culture 


You must choose one of the following:

  • Introducing the scriptures
  • Interpreting the Old Testament
  • Interpreting the New Testament.

Upper level electives

You must also choose three of the following:

  • An introduction to Christian thought
  • Spirituality for 21st century disciples
  • Media and communication in contemporary culture
  • Leading and facilitating groups
  • Supervised field education 1
  • Guided study in Christian education and discipleship A
  • Creative arts in worship, learning and mission. 

Students who have completed the  Diploma of Ministry, Children, Youth and Family will gain one year of credit towards the Bachelor of Ministry.
