Preaching Seminars

21 & 28 February and 7 & 14 March

A Masterclass in Preaching (VET unit).

Four focused and highly practical seminars in four consecutive weeks for anyone wanting to develop skills in the art of preacing. Learn how to preach God's Word, craft a sermon and engage people while finding your voice and growing in confidence.

These classes are presented in conjunction with Adelaide West Uniting Church. It can be done for audit or assessment as part of the Certificate IV in Christian Life & Ministry (10496NAT).

Thanks to the RH White Trust, scholarships can be awarded to new students of the Cert IV. The unit will be held at Adelaide West Uniting Church over four consecutive Tuesdays.

Walking on Country/Towards Reconciliation 2017

The Monastery Function Centre, 15 Cross Rd, Urrbrae.

Join our annual immersion into the stories, history and culture of the Kuarna people of the Adelaide Plains.

There are two ways you can do this:

  • Choose to study for credit, with the immersion providing the teaching input and assessments following during the semester. This can be studied at either undergraduate or postgraduate levels for Flinders or Adelaide College of Divinity students. Please contact ACD Student Services for further information.
  • Do it for interest. Uniting Church ordination candidates are encouraged to participate as part of their course. Church leaders, workers and other members are encourged to take part too.

Family members may be able to attend, but this is dependent on numbers.

  • To achieve the learning outcomes of this field trip and provide the maximum benefit to participants of the program it is compulsory for all participants to be present and participate for the whole program, including staying at the Monastery Function Centre on both Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Field trip cost: $350 per adult (includes accommodation - maximum two people per room - meals from Friday morning tea to Sunday breakfast, cultural activities and facilitation. Transport is not included nor is the Saturday evening meal at a local restaurant and lunch on Sunday. In addition, normal unit fees apply if studying for credit.

Places are limited. Enrol by 17 March 2017.

Towards Reconciliation

27 to 30 April

Also known as Walking on Country, this is an off-campus study tour.

An opportunity to join our annual immersion into the stories, history and culture of a local Aboriginal nation. The guides and venue for this study tour will be announced closer to the time.

This intensive unit is a requirement for all Candidates. It is also available to Bachelor students as a Guided Study.

Transforming Worship

27 to 30 July

A national conference hosted by UCA Assembly Worship Group.

Worship as transformation and formation in the presence of God. Interplay between worship. Learning & mission. Shaping intergenerational worship. Worship in multicultural communities. Preaching: Making Gospel sense. Crafting music and imagery for worship. Worship 'outside the box'.

Available for credit. Also available to Bachelor students as a Guided Study.

 Youth and Young Adult Ministry - with Tim Hein and Mike Wardrop

 Learn the most important things you need to know about youth ministry.

 In this unit you will:

  •  connect with others in this field
  • understand what youth ministers do and why
  • sharpen your youth ministry skills
  • build a healthy and holistic youth ministry.

Evangelism: The hope we have - with Mike Frost & Karina Kreminski

27 to 29 August 2017.

Sharing our faith in a secular world.

We will explore the theology and practice of evangelism in our secular world. This intensive is in the form of a conference that forms part of a unit which may be taken for credit through August 2017. For more information contact Rev Christy Capper on info@unitingcollege.org.au.

Godly Play Core Training (VET intentsive) - with Juduth Roberts

3 -5 Oct

An intense three-day course in which participants are immersed in Godly Play practice, learn and tell a story for supportive feedback and evaluation.

Learn the three genres of stories in Godly Play, the role of the storyteller, the role of the doorperson, the Godly Play space, materials, response time, spirituality of the child, forming and maintaining a story circle community that is safe, the history and practice of Godly Play and much more. This is required training for those who want to achieve accreditation as a Godly Play storyteller/doorperson. This intensive can be taken for credit.
